Hello, and welcome,

it’s lovely to have you here in my quiet little corner of the web.

My name is Carly, a therapist for sensitivity and I am endlessly moved by people who feel deeply, care fiercely, and question the world around them. I’m passionate about sensitivity, justice, compassion, and the quiet strength it takes to keep showing up in a world that often feels harsh. At the heart of my work is a deep respect for your inherent worth, your capacity for growth, and the rich inner world that makes you, you.

Join the Sensitive Revolution

Meet Carly – Therapist for Sensitivity

My approach to therapy is centred on our relationship. I see therapy as a genuine, human connection and it’s through this connection that real change can happen. I am a human first and therapist for sensitivity second, so you won’t see me with a blank face or clipboard. I’ll show up with realness and presence, which means laughter, swearing for emphasis, and the occasional well-timed joke are all welcome here.

I aim to create a space that’s grounding and empowering, where you can build self-acceptance, reconnect with your values, and explore your most authentic self. It’s important to me that you feel seen, understood and accepted, just as you are – whilst also not shying away from the hard stuff. I’ll gently challenge you when honesty and directness may be needed to support your growth.

I’m a qualified therapist and registered nurse and bring both professional and lived experience to my work. I work integratively, which means I draw from multiple therapeutic models, so your therapy is shaped by your individuality and not by a fixed formula. I specialise in inherent and acquired sensitivity – simply put, whether you were born sensitive or became that way through difficult experiences.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and follow their code of ethics.

I’m so glad you’ve found your way to this space. Make yourself at home.

Meet Carly – The Human

Hi, I’m Carly – a therapist, yes, but also just a flawed, sensitive, messy human who probably has too many tabs open!

Like many therapists, I’ve ended up specialising in the things I’ve also lived. For so long I felt both too much and not enough at the same time. Trauma, anxiety, perfectionism, chronic pain and sensitivity have all found their way into my story. That lived experience is woven into how I show up in the world. Curiosity, compassion, knowledge, truth, and justice are the values at the heart of what drives me, I care deeply about animals, people, and the planet. I’m passionate about reducing suffering, standing up for justice and equality, and living with radical empathy and compassion.

Outside of sessions, you’ll usually find me reorganising my bookshelf instead of doing life admin, talking to my dogs Willow and Florence like they’re people, or debating with ChatGPT about one of my many existential musings. Nature makes me feel connected, singing helps me regulate and re-reading Harry Potter brings me nostalgic comfort (I’m a proud Huffleclaw – IFYKYK). I love anything crafty, I’m always dreaming of my next trip, and if I won the lottery, I’d be a perpetual student.

The Personal Is Political: A Note on Inclusion and Identity

My practice is rooted in trauma-informed and neuro-affirming care, and I’m passionate about recognising the political and systemic issues that often shape our inner lives.

I offer a safe, inclusive space where every aspect of your identity, including gender, sexuality, neurodivergence, and relationship style, is not only respected, but fully welcomed. I also recognise the deep impact that marginalisation can have on mental health, safety, and belonging.

I’m committed to ongoing learning, self-reflection, and showing up with humility, openness, and care.

My Background

I started my career as an intensive care nurse and then went on to complete a public health degree, focusing on children and families. I studied child development, mental health, abuse, and safeguarding, and worked in various specialist nursing roles over the years. This gives me deep insight into how early experiences shape us – insight I draw on when supporting adults processing childhood trauma or relational wounding. In my nursing role, I was a child exploitation champion, providing training and raising awareness about abuse and safeguarding. I developed and delivered consent workshops in schools – a project I later presented at the University of Derby.

I’ve also worked in specialist trauma services, including as a trainee therapist at a psychological trauma centre and at a sexual violence charity, supporting survivors of sexual abuse and assault. I served as a trustee for a sexual violence organisation for six years and briefly worked as a forensic sexual offences nurse at a rape crisis centre. My psychotherapy dissertation explored meaning-making after rape and how this process can shape healing outcomes. I’ve spoken at Parliament with MPs about the urgent need for better sexual violence provision.

My nursing career eventually led me toward mental health work, and I retrained as a psychotherapist, spending several years working in both roles part-time. In 2020, I left nursing to run my online therapy practice full-time as a therapist for autistic and ADHD adults, and I’ve been lovingly doing this work ever since.
